CNC machining center common cutting methods are divided into six kinds: reciprocating cutting; Unidirectional cutting; Unidirectional cutting along the contour; Follow the peripheral cutting; Follow the workpiece cutting; Cycloid cutting.
1, reciprocating cutting:
The reciprocating cutting method creates a reciprocating parallel cutting tool path, which maintains continuous movement during the step movement. No cutter can maximize the material cutting, which is the most economical and easiest cutting movement. This cutting method co-exists with both in-milling and counter-milling. If the wall cleaning operation is enabled, the tool path direction of wall cleaning will be affected to maintain pure in-milling or counter-milling.
2, one-way cutting:
The unidirectional cutting method produces parallel and unidirectional cutting tool paths, and the return journey is a fast cross movement, because there is no cutting during the return journey, thus affecting machining efficiency. Unidirectional cutting can always maintain consistent forward milling or reverse milling, usually used for island surface machining and not suitable for reciprocating cutting methods, such as some steep wall ribs, generally used with surface finishing.
3. One-way cutting along the contour:
Unidirectional cutting along the profile is used to create parallel, unidirectional, tool paths along the profile, and to always maintain either face milling or reverse milling cuts. The wall quality of processing is better than reciprocating cutting and one-way cutting, and the cutting is relatively stable, there is no impact on the tool, so it is usually used for processing parts or thin-wall parts with higher requirements on the side wall.
4, follow the peripheral cutting:
The following peripheral cutting method is primarily used to create concentric tool paths that are sequenced along the contour. This is achieved by offsetting the peripheral contour, with all paths presented in a closed form in the machining area. Follow the peripheral cutting tool path is continuous cutting tool path, no empty cutting, basic can maintain simple milling or milling, so both high cutting efficiency can maintain cutting stability and ensure processing quality, usually used for rough machining with islands and inner cavity parts.
5, follow the workpiece cutting:
Follow the workpiece cutting method to generate a series of tool paths that simulate all the specified profiles of the machined part, both the outer wall of the cutting area and the islands in the cutting area. These tool path shapes are obtained by bias the outer profile and island profiles of the cutting area. The tool path following the workpiece cutting is the tool path of continuous cutting. No cutting, can maintain pure milling or milling, so both high cutting efficiency can maintain cutting stability and ensure processing quality, usually used in the island cavity machining area.
6, cycloid cutting:
Cycloid cutting method is used to create small circles around the contour to avoid cutting too much material due to full cutting. Cycloid cutting is suitable for high speed machining with relatively uniform cutting load.
